OECD publishes Broadband statistics

The OECD - The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, has published a study, profiling the existence of broadband access to the internet in the OECD during the first half of 2006. The study, Broadband Statistics June 2006, which presents a range of statistical data, was published on 13 October 2006.

Among its key findings, the study highlights the growth seen in the number of broadband subscribers in OECD countries. This number has increased to over 181 million from 136 million in June 2005, and translates into an increase in the OECD broadband penetration rate to 15.5 subscribers per 100 inhabitants in June 2006, up from a rate of 11.7 a year before.

Of the 30 countries covered by the study, Portugal can be found in 21st position with a penetration rate of 12.9 subscribers per 100 inhabitants, compared to a rate of 9.9m in June 2005.
