World Post Day 2006


''The Post . Reaching everyone everywhere: Earning customers' trust with total quality worldwide''; this has been chosen by the Director General of the UPU International Bureau to be the theme for this year's World Post Day, to held on 9 October, the date the UPU was set up.

The commemorative ceremony will take place, as it has for several years in the Portuguese Communications Foundation and will be attended by the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, and the Joint Secretary of State for Public Works, and Communications, as well as by the Chairmen of ANACOM and CTT.

The event will include, besides the institutional session, other initiatives such as the inauguration of the exhibitions ''The Transmission of Knowledge. From Codex to the Printed Word'' and ''Designs, Originals of Indian Stamps'', the presentation of the book ''The Communications of Antiquity'' by Professor Luís Manuel de Araújo of the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon University and the launch of the project ''Dynamism of Reading and Writing''

Prizes will also be awarded during the ceremony for the winners of the 2006 letter-writing competition, while the 2007 competition will be launched with the theme: ''Imagine you are a wild animal whose habitat is threatened by environmental or climate change. Write a letter to the people of the world, explaining to them what they can do to help you survive."

These competitions are run worldwide by the UPU and publicised in Portugal by ANACOM and CTT.
