Joint Statement on the regulation of electronic communications

The joint statement of the European Commissioner for Information Society and Media Viviane Reding and of the Chairman of the European Regulators Group (ERG) Roberto Viola, on the structural reforms in the electronic communications, was released yesterday, confirming an approach between both parties in connection with this sector's reform process.

In general, they agree on analysing the several options that may lead to an improvement in the system of cooperation between the Commission and the ERG, such as promoting ERG's role in the current regulatory and legislative processes and promoting the internal market of electronic communications.

The Commission saluted the establishment of an ERG Secretariat in Brussels, a clear sign of its compromise to explore, together with the Commission, the Group's full potential to respond to the regulatory challenges of the next decade.
