European Parliament to debate roaming

The European Parliament has scheduled a briefing session on the regulation of international roaming services. The aim of the session, which is to take place on 23 January, is to look at the progress made in this field since the last briefing session in May 2006.

Organised by the Committee on Internal Market and the Consumer Protection Committee on Industry, the session will be attended by Fábio Colasanti, the European Commission Director General for the Information Society and Media.

The session also follows a presentation on roaming and in particular on the proposal for a regulation on roaming on public mobile networks within the Community that Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner for the Information Society and Media, made to the parliament on 11 January 2007.

Meanwhile the website on international roaming, launched by the European Commission in 2006, has been highlighted by the European Union Yearbook as being one of the 10 major policy actions undertaken by the European Union during 2006.
