New Arbitration Centre for Electronic Commerce

A protocol was signed on 21 july 2010 on the establishment of the CIMACE - Centro de Informação, Mediação e Arbitragem do Comércio Electrónico (Centre for Information, Mediation and Arbitration for the Electronic Commerce). This centre, completely virtual, provides dispute resolution alternatives emerging from commercial relations occurring between suppliers and consumers on an internet environment. Users only need a computer with internet access and a webcam to resolve their dispute.

CIMACE is a joint iniciative of the Ministry of Justice, through the GRAL - Gabinete para a Resolução Alternativa de Litígios (Bureau of Alternative Dispute Resolution), DECO - Associação Portuguesa Para a Defesa do Consumidor (Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection), ACEPI - Associação de Comércio Electrónico e Publicidade Interactiva (Association of Electronic Commerce and Interactive Publicity), and of the APED - Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Distribuição (Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies).
