''A smile with ICTs'' project launched at children's hospitals

FDTI - Fundação para a Divulgação das Tecnologias de Informação (Foundation for the Propagation of the Information Technologies) launches today, at 12h00, the first phase of the project “A smile with ICTs” at the Dª Estefânia Hospital in Lisbon, the IPO - Instituto Português de Oncologia (Portuguese Oncology Institute) in Porto and the Pediatric Hospital in Coimbra.

This project’s goal is to provide to public hospitals’ paediatric units technological infrastructure that gives the child patients moments of leisure, also making it possible for family and friends to follow them up and for themselves to contact their own schools. It is aimed at 2 to 14 year old child patients, at technicians, hospital volunteers and these children’s families. In this sense, these units will be equipped with desktops, laptops, webcams, broadband Internet, leisure and educational software, and sites for family blogs. The project will also comprise specific training for hospital technicians and family members.

This four-year project has the support of the Health Ministry and of the Secretaria de Estado da Juventude e do Desporto (State Secretary for Youth and Sports) and the cooperation of public hospitals.

ANACOM supports this FDTI’s initiative.
