The first phase of registration for the new top level web domain ''.eu'' will begin on 7 December 2005, as announced yesterday by the European Registry of Internet Domain Names (EURid), the independent European organization selected by the European Commission to manage this top level domain.
This first phase of registration, which will last for a four month period, will only be accessible to holders of commercial trademarks or other preference rights. The opening of the registration to the general public is foreseen for the beginning of April 2006.
