The first week of the Tariff Monitor

One week after becoming available to the public, the mobile telephone service (STM) Tariff Monitor registered yesterday, August 4th, at around 4 p.m., a total of 20 166  accesses and 54 063 simulation operations, an average of about 322 simulations per hour and 5 simulations per minute. According to these data from ANACOM, each average user made about three simulation operations.

In terms of use of the Tariff Monitor’s several functions – monthly consumption, call comparison, virtual calls and tariff consultation - tariff consultation and call comparison stand out. Available data show that 28 161 tariff consultations and 17 584 call comparisons were made during the first week of the Monitor, corresponding to about 52% and 33% of all the simulations made, respectively.

These data reflect how receptive STM (mobile telephone service) users were to this initiative by ANACOM, evident even after the first 24 hours of the Monitor, when a total of 7 112 accesses and 22 376 operations had already been made, corresponding to an average of about 932 simulation operations per hour and 15 operations per minute.

Created and developed by ANACOM in close collaboration with the three STM operators, the Tariff Monitor gives private consumers the information they need for a well-based evaluation of the available STM tariff alternatives in Portugal. Although it currently only contemplates STM voice service, the aim is to broaden the scope of the Tariff Monitor to include other services, such as short message service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS).
