New German sectoral regulatory authority - Federal Network Agency


On July 13th last, when the new German energy law became effective, the up-to-then German regulatory authority for the telecommunications and postal service industries, Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts (RegTP), became the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway (Federal Network Agency).

This new Authority, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour (BMWA), is now responsible for the regulation of the gas and electricity industries and, after January 1st 2006, also the railway infrastructure industry, in addition to the previous powers regarding telecommunications and postal services.
