OECD reports on Portuguese Economy

In a recent report, “Economic Survey of Portugal 2006”, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)  has outlined four basic challenges for Portugal, based on an analysis of the current economic situation together with the reforms proposed by the government.

The four challenges are: to put public finances on a sustainable path, to improve the education system, to modernize the economy and lastly to create a more dynamic business environment and a better functioning labour market.

The report refers to the telecommunications sector, especially in its fifth chapter, “Creating a More Dynamic Business Environment and Improving the Functioning of the Labour Market”. In this chapter, the report underlines the need to continue implementing measures that, by promoting competition, increase the sector’s efficiency and bring prices down.
