European Commission launches public consultations on future and emerging technologies

Within the scope of the elaboration of the 7th Framework-Programme (FP7), the Information Society and Media Directorate-General of the European Commission launched, on 1 February, a set of public consultations in order to determine the research areas which may be supported by the Future and Emerging Technologies Programme (FET), the main instrument of the Commission to finance scientific research and technological development.

The public consultations, as well as seminars and conferences, hosted by the Commission in this context, aim to gather the opinion of the scientific community on several themes, such as: pervasive computing and communications; nanoelectronics and nanotechnologies; security and trust; intelligent and cognitive systems; software intensive systems; and synergies between biology and new information technologies.

These public consultations run until 31 March 2006.
