World Post Day - Celebrations in Portugal


The World Post Day on 11 October, celebrated worldwide on 9 October, was marked with a ceremony in Portugal held at FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Foundation for Communications), chaired by António Mendonça, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, and attended by José Amado da Silva, Chaiman of ANACOM and President of the General Council of the FPC, Estanislaus Costa, Chairman of CTT - Correios de Portugal, Zeinal Bava, CEO of Portugal Telecom, among other people.

During this commemorative ceremony, the prizes for the contest ''2010 Letter-Writing Competition'' were awarded to, in the age group 9-11, Catarina Alexandra Gomes Moreira, born in Vila do Conde, and in the age group 12-15, Patrícia Sofia Sousa Florindo was distinguished, of Trofa, who represented Portugal at the International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People organised by the Universal Postal Union (UPU, and was awarded the third note of honor.


FPC also launched a book entitled "O Interesse Público na Política de Comunicações 1910 –2010'' written by João Confraria with the support from ANACOM.

In connection with the DMC celebrations, the Museum of Communications inaugurated the exhibitions ''Communicating in the Republic – 100 Years of Innovation and Technology'', (included in the permanent exhibition ''Winning Distance - Five Centuries of Communications in Portugal'') and ''Original Postage Stamps in the 100 Years of the Republic''.
