Within the scope of the protocol signed between ANACOM and DECO - Associação Portuguesa para a Defesa do Consumidor (Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection), under which DECO commits itself to carrying out ongoing comparative tests of set-top-boxes for digital terrestrial television (DTT), the first results of the analysis of various boxes, including prices for the user, were published on the website of the Association.
DECO specialists consider the set-top-box “Televes TDT 7151” as the best in the test, although the right choice is the “Denver DMB-105HD”. Four of the boxes are not recommended, mainly due to their high energy consumption in stand-by mode, which in some cases is five times higher than the level stipulated by the European Commission. DECO also provides information on the prices of boxes by store, which allows the consumer to choose the cheapest establishments.
Although not included in the DECO study, it is worth pointing out that Leroy Merlin Stores currently have a box on sale at the lowest price anywhere. The Best Buy Easy Home TDT HD Nano decoder, which costs 36.95 euros, but is on sale at the promotional price of 29.95 euros.
We recall that the end of the current analogue television transmissions (switch-off) is scheduled for 26 April 2012, when televisions without an integrated DTT tuner will have to adapt to the new technology by, namely, installing a set-top-box.
