"Imagine you are a tree living in a forest. Write a letter to someone to explain why it is important to protect forests" - this was the theme of the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) letter-writing competition, which in Portugal is being organised jointly by Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) and CTT - Correios de Portugal, with participation this year from the Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development.
Of a total of 2,484 letters received, the following were announced as winners.
- 1st category (9-11 years): Beatriz Olival Baptista from Funchal; and
- 2nd category (12-15 years): João Bruno Nogueira Pereira de Canelas - Estarreja.
The winning letter from the second category will go on to represent Portugal in the UPU's International letter-writing competition.
