Network of postal establishments - 2010


ANACOM has released the latest report on the network of postal establishments belonging to CTT - Correios de Portugal, S.A. (CTT), concessionaire of the universal postal service, and belonging to other companies providing postal services conceded to CTT as at the end of 2010.

According to the report, there were 2 897 postal establishments in operation, 7 more than at the end of 2009.  Of these establishments, 873 were permanent post offices, 11 were mobile post offices and 2 013 were postal service offices, confirming the trend seen since the second quarter of 2008.

At least one post office was reported in each municipality, while in 293 municipalities (95.1% of the total), there were two or more postal establishments (either post office or postal services office).  According to CTT, as at the end of 2010, all post offices provided the entire range of concession services, whereas 912 postal services offices did not offer parcel services (8 more than in 2009).
Compared to other Member States of the European Union (EU), and according to data provided by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), with reference to 2008, levels of postal coverage and density in Portugal was above average.

Pursuant to the Concession of the Universal Postal Service, ANACOM received 98 notifications from CTT in 2010, as follows: 11 post office closures and replacement with postal service offices; 3 post office closures, 76 reductions in post office operating hours and 8 increases in post office operating hours.
