The fourth meeting of the ITU Council working group preparing for the 2012 World Conference on International Telecommunications (CWG WCIT-12) was held last 4-6 April in Geneva.
Two new vice-chairs of the group were elected at this CWG meeting: Naser Ahmed Al-Rashedi (United Arab Emirates) and Jongbong Park (Korea), respectively by the Arab and Asia-Pacific states.
The 17 contributions presented to this group meeting were presented. In some cases, the contributions were of a general nature, putting forward proposals on the whole of the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR). In others, the contributions were more specific, focusing on a given aspect of the Regulations.
Regarding the structure of the CWG report for the WCIT, the group chairman noted that two different approaches to the report’s structure were being examined. The first defended the grouping of different proposals in various thematic chapters; the second called for a succinct report containing an appendix that would group in table form the new proposals in accordance with the current ITR structure. The group ended up deciding on the second option.
The next meeting will be held in Geneva this coming 27-30 September.
