PT Policy meeting - Warsaw

Warsaw hosted last 6-7 April a meeting of the project team (PT) for Policy of the European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP).

More attention was paid to issues concerning the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the relationship CERP should foster with the UPU, as it participates as a Restricted Union (on CEPT’s behalf) and is increasingly attempting to assure European co-ordination in the UPU. In this regard, various preliminary views of what may happen at the annual session of the UPU Postal Operations Council (POC), to be held from 25 April to 13 May, were presented. This was likewise the last time that application of the Postal Directive was included in the group’s agenda.

Portugal was asked to report on the current status of the UPU's .post project, as it accompanied the first phase of producing the domain management policy. The subject of terminal dues was discussed, even though it was clear that it will not be easy to find a common position in CERP due to the different postal traffic situations in the European countries. The subject will nevertheless be debated again in the future.

The 44th CERP plenary meeting (Dublin, this 19-20 May) is expected to approve the new CERP structure and PT Policy should thereby cease to exist as such and take on the name WG UPU, after which the model for the latter’s meetings and the date and place of the first meeting will be decided.
