Centre of E-Commerce Information, Mediation and Arbitration (CIMACE)

CIMACE - Centro de Informação, Mediação e Arbitragem do Comércio Electrónico (Centre of E-Commerce Information, Mediation and Arbitration) was presented yesterday at the Justice Campus Auditorium in Lisbon, providing a means of arbitration that will seek to resolve conflicts arising between consumers and e-commerce companies.

The Centre will work as a fully electronic platform for the resolution of conflicts which can be used by anyone with an Internet connection and a webcam.  It is hoped that it will be possible to settle conflicts without the need to resort to the courts, enabling much quicker, efficient and less costly resolution.

The launch of the CIMACE results from a protocol agreed between GRAL - Gabinete para a Resolução Alternativa de Litígios (Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution), DECO - Associação Portuguesa para a Defesa do Consumido (Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection), ACEPI - Associação de Comércio Electrónico e Publicidade Interactiva (Association of Electronic Commerce and Interactive Publicity) and APED - Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Distribuição (Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies).
