World Post Day will be marked this year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874, in Berne (Switzerland). In Portugal, the event will be marked on 11 October with a ceremony organised by FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation).
In a message about the day, Edouard Dayan, the UPU’s Director General, noted that post is an invaluable public service worldwide and is still the largest physical delivery network in the world, with six hundred thousand post offices processing 438 billion letters and 6 billion parcels every year.
