World Post Day 2011 - Celebrations in Portugal


Celebrated worldwide on 9 October, the World Post Day was celebrated on 11 October 2011 in Portugal, through a ceremony organized by the FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Foundation for Communications).

One of the initiatives of the ceremony was the awards ceremony of the contest "A Melhor Carta 2011" (The Best Letter 2011), whose winners were Beatriz Olival Baptista, Funchal, in the age group 9-11, and João Bruno Nogueira Pereira de Canelas, Estarreja, in the age group 12-15, who represented Portugal at the international Letter-Writing Competition for Young People, whose winners were ex aequo Charlée Gittens (Barbados, 15 years old) and Wang Sa (China, 13 years old). At 2012 the theme for the international letter-writing competition is "Escreve uma carta a um atleta ou figura desportiva que admiras, contando o que pensas dos Jogos Olímpicos".

Following which there was the launch of the philatelic issue CTT "Correio Escolar” the publication "Comunicar na República - 100 anos de Inovação e Tecnologia" and also the realization of Tech-Open "Como levar a carta a Garcia na era digital?" (How to take the letter to Garcia in the digital age?), coordinated by Reginaldo de Almeida and with guest speakers José Amado da Silva, Chairman of ANACOM, Pedro Coelho, Vice-Chairman of CTT - Correios de Portugal, João Confraria, Professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Lisbon, and Paulo Querido, Journalist.

Finally, there was the inauguration of the exhibition "Luiz Duran - Uma vida com selos dentro".
