PT BEREC-RSPG meeting - Brussels

Brussels hosted last 27 October a meeting of the joint project team (PT) of the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) and the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), chaired by Thomas Heutmann (BNetzA).

The meeting served to resume work on the report on "determining the economic and social value of spectrum". The aim was to finish it at this meeting so it could be approved by the RSPG and BEREC plenary sessions to be held before the end of the year. The meeting nevertheless concluded that the group would need more time to complete the work. Indeed the little time available and the complex nature of the work meant it was not possible to finish the report at the meeting with the desired degree of thoroughness and consensus. In particular, the participants were unable to finish the chapter concerning the key issues, in practice the conclusions, as well as the chapter on generic considerations regarding the social value of spectrum.

In sum, a first draft of the report will be submitted to the next meetings of the RSPG and the BEREC Contact Network to obtain preliminary comments from those groups. A request will also be made to extend the deadline for finishing the report. The group will therefore continue working via email and meet again this coming 1 December.
