ADOPT_DTV: Barriers to the adoption of digital television in the transition from analogue to digital television in Portugal - final report

Final report of the research project "ADOPT-DTV: Barriers to the adoption of digital television in the transition from analogue to digital television" conducted by CICANT - Centro de Investigação em Comunicação, Artes e Novas Tecnologias (Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies) of Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, with funding provided by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology), in partnership with OberCom - Observatório da Comunicação (Observatory for the Media) and ANACOM.

The ADOPT-DTV project, conducted between April 2010 and October 2011, entailed a combination of various quantitative and qualitative methods (ethnography, interviews, quantitative survey and usability studies); it sought to understand which factors have most bearing on the adoption or rejection of digital television by the Portuguese population.

In addition to the results of this research work, the final report presents a set of practical recommendations targeted at stakeholders in this process in Portugal, seeking to contribute to a better understanding of the challenges faced in the short to medium term during the process of transition from analogue terrestrial television to digital terrestrial television and to the development of more inclusive digital television.
