World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is being held on 17 May, focusing this year on the theme chosen by the International telecommunication Union, “Women and Girls in ICT”.
In Portugal, the day will be marked at Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation) at an event attended by the Chairman of ANACOM's management board and Chairman of FPC's General Council, José Amado da Silva, as well as by the Chief Executive Officer of the Portugal Telecom Group.
The event includes the launch of a set of postal stationery by CTT's Vice-chairman, dedicated to José Pinto Basto, for his contribution to the study of autoswitching and to the development of the Portuguese telecommunications sector. A session honouring José Pinto Basto will be held with a presentation of the historian Fernanda Rollo.
The day will also see the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Agora Sim’, which brings together a set of works by the Brazilian artist Adriano Barreto.
The session will be brought to a conclusion by Álvaro Santos Pereira, Minister for the Economy and Employment.
Meanwhile, APDSI - Associação para a Promoção e Desenvolvimento da Sociedade de Informação (Association for the Promotion and Development of the Information Society) has organised a round table on the theme "Women in the Information Society", with participation from speakers with notable records in the information society.
