In the first week of liberalisation, FCCN - Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional (Foundation for National Scientific Computing) has announced the registration of 28,984 domains with the Portuguese extension (.pt domains).
Under the new rules, in force since 1 May 2012, national and foreign individuals and organisations are free to set up .pt domains which previously could only be allocated to companies, brands or individuals with the same name.
