Service provided by PTC using the ''1820'' number - regularization and breach proceedings

By determination of 17 May 2012, ANACOM decided to order PT Comunicações (PTC) to discontinue, within a period not exceeding two months, provision of services that are unrelated to telephone directories as part of the service of the ''1820'' number, and to limit the service to the disclosure of data included in the telephone directories of subscribers to the telephone fixed and mobile services, as well as other information that may be directly linked to said directories.

The following services are to be discontinued: indication of open pharmacies; simple national telegrams; Internet search; travel, taxi, hotels and restaurant reservation services; information on cultural events and tourist attractions; horoscopes; transport timetables, routes and traffic, television programming, draw results (Euromillions, Totoloto, Totobola); cinema programmes and ticketing services for shows and football games; financial news and information (stock markets, news); and weather forecasting.

It was also decided to recommend that PTC alter the information on the tariffs applying to the "1820" service, which must now also make clear that where calls are forwarded through the service, such calls shall be subject to the prices established in the applicable tariff, which prices are not equal to those charged when the calls are made independently by users.

Additionally, and by determination of the same date, ANACOM decided to instigate breach proceedings against PTC in view of the irregularities outlined above.
