Rules governing use of 18xy numbers for information services - final decision

By determination of 18 April 2013, ANACOM has approved the final decision on the rules governing use of 18xy numbers under the PNN - Plano Nacional de Numeração (National Numbering Plan) for information services - other directories.

It was considered necessary to review the conditions governing use of 18xy information numbers, especially considering their social utility, whereby prevailing numbering principles were amended.

According to the approved rules, 18xy numbers may be used for the provision of directory enquiry services characterized by the provision of subscriber information (names, addresses, phone or fax numbers, or electronic contacts). In addition to telephone directory information services covering all national subscribers to telephone services, the same number may also be used to offer specific services, where properly identified and as characterized in the approved decision - timetable information, programme information, advice on the choice of goods, services or itineraries, information on local services, a range of general content of public interest, and booking and reservation services.

The decision also establishes the retail tariff to which use of 18xy numbers in this context is subject; this tariff may be revised as market conditions warrant.

Undertakings with rights to use 18xy numbers have 30 working days to adapt their offers to the conditions as now approved. Attention is drawn to the requirement to properly advertise and disclose the services offered, along with the respective prices and other conditions, including information provided online.

On this date, approval was likewise given to the report on the consultation procedures to which the respective draft decision was subject.
