ITU - Global Symposium for Regulators 2013

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the specialist United Nations agency for telecommunications, including the information society, is holding the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-13) from 3 to 5 July 2013, in Warsaw, Poland. This event, which includes participation from about 125 countries, is entitled "4th-Generation Regulation: driving digital communications ahead".

The GSR-13 will comprise several panels to discuss topics such as the future of the digital society, the need to attract infrastructure investment, spectrum management and issues of universal service financing. The Chairman of ANACOM's Management Board, Fátima Barros, will take part in the panel discussing universal service financing.

On the eve of the GSR-13, several events took place, including a summit between the body that brings together European electronic communications regulators (BEREC) and the association of Latin America regulators (Regulatel), in which Portugal and Spain also participate.

This summit aims to establish a platform for cooperation between regulators on both continents, promoting the exchange of regulatory experience in the electronic communications sector. ANACOM has worked hard to establish contacts between European Regulators (BEREC) and Regulatel, participating actively in this association's work.

Also on the eve of the GSR-13, a meeting was held bringing together regional associations of regulators from different areas of the globe; this was attended by ARCTEL-CPLP (Association of CPLP Communications and Telecommunications Regulators) and also by EMERG (Euro-Mediterranean network of Regulators), which is currently chaired by ANACOM.
