Increase reported in number of accesses to fixed telephone service over high-speed networks

The number of accesses in Portugal to the fixed telephone service over the Internet, supported over high-speed networks, increased 3.2% in 2013, while the number of other types of access - analogue, GSM/UMTS and ISDN - fell.  In total, there were 4.5 million main telephone accesses, a decline of 0.1% over the previous quarter and of 0.6% from a year previously.

As at the end of 4th quarter 2013, the penetration rate of main telephone accesses was reported at 43.2 accesses per 100 inhabitants. The penetration rate of residential direct access customers was reported at 55.4 per 100 conventional dwellings and 80.9 per hundred private households.

The number of installed public pay-telephones continued to decline, falling to about 22 thousand in the quarter being reported, (a decrease of 1.8% over the previous quarter and of 5% compared to the same quarter of 2012).

In December, Grupo PT held a 56.4% share of all main accesses, while Grupo ZON Optimus, as second largest operator, reported a share of 31.2%.

The volume of FTS voice minutes is reported below the lower limit of the forecast range resulting from the estimated seasonal effect, following an increase of 4.8% compared to the previous quarter, while declining 4.7% compared to the same quarter of 2012.
During the quarter, each access consumed 121 minutes on average per month in fixed-fixed calls, 12 minutes in fixed-mobile calls and 8 minutes in international calls.

Fixed telephone service revenues (as a stand-alone service and as part of a bundle of services), totalled 1.5 billion euros, rising 0.9% over the same period of 2012.
