Consultation on the future of DTT

By determination of 4 April 2014, ANACOM has approved the launch of a public consultation on the future of digital terrestrial television (DTT).

This consultation procedure, prepared in conjunction with ERC - Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (Media Regulatory Authority), provides all stakeholders in the development of DTT with an opportunity to participate and be consulted, and will support the definition of measures to be adopted pursuant to the powers and responsibilities of each regulator (ANACOM and ERC), while taking into account the evolution in radio spectrum use being configured at an international level.

The consultation sets out possible scenarios for the future direction of DTT, specifically as regards the provision of new free-to-air content and platforms, the transmission of current TV programme services in HD, and the opportunity and suitability of introducing other business models, including pay-TV; it also sets out to gauge potential interest in the provision of services with different geographical scope.

Interested parties have a period of 20 working days to comment. Comments should be submitted by email no later than 26 May 2014 and sent to futuro.tdt@anacom.ptmailto:futuro.tdt@anacom.pt1 and consultapublica.tdt@erc.ptmailto:consultapublica.tdt@erc.pt. Respondents should also submit a non-confidential version of their contributions.
