Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the universal service - updated information


From 1 June 2014, NOS Comunicações, S.A. (NOS) will take over as provider of the universal telephone service at a fixed location. Meanwhile, PT Comunicações, S.A. (PTC) will continue as provider of the two other provisions of the universal electronic communications service - the telephone directory and 118 directory enquiries service, and the public pay-telephones service.

The universal service ensures provision of a minimum set of services of specified quality which is available to all users regardless of their geographical location and at an affordable price.
