The tariff system to be practised by Portugal Telecom in 2001 will be approved by the Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) throughout January. Maintaining the accessibility conditions of consumers to fixed telephone services will be taken into account upon approval of the tariff system.
On 20 December 2000, ICP received a proposal form Portugal Telecom to alter the tariff system of the Fixed Telephone Service for 2001. Yesterday, ICP sent said proposal to associations representing consumers and to the Instituto do Consumidor (Consumer Institute) so as to gather opinions and comments which may contribute toward the decision-making process.
By mid-January, ICP and the Directorate-General for Commerce and Competition, in terms of their competencies, will proffer a decision. The prices to be practised in 2001 as well as the date on which they come into effect will be disseminated in due course.
