Latvia takes over European Union Presidency on 01.01.2015

Latvia holds presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) from 1 January to 30 June 2015.

This mandate is the second of the presidential triumvirate - the system set up in 2009 by the Treaty of Lisbon - which began on 1 July 2014 with the Italian Presidency and ends with the Luxembourg Presidency from 1 July to 31 December 2015.

The Latvian Presidency will focus its activities on three main objectives: competitiveness and growth in the EU; using the European digital potential for development; and strengthening the EU's role as a global actor.
