49th ECC PT1 meeting - Vilnius

The 49th meeting of ECC Project Team 1 (ECC PT1) on International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) was held last 20-21 April in Vilnius, Lithuania, chaired by Didier Chaveau of France.

ECC PT1 is responsible for all issues concerning IMT. Its mission specifically focuses on developing measures to harmonise bands identified for the IMT system (including respective channels), conducting sharing/compatibility studies that involve the IMT system and coordinating European positions within the Radiocommunication Sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R).

A highlight of this meeting was completion of the revision of two CEPT recommendations, updated to consider latest developments in the 2100 MHz and 700 MHz bands. Both documents will be forwarded to the working group on Frequency Management (WG FM) for approval and public consultation. Note also that various studies are being conducted with a view to harmonising use of the 700 MHz bands for machine-to-machine (M2M). Finally, ECC PT1 is notably considering a review of existing regulatory/technical measures for mobile communications on board vessels (MCV) and mobile communications on board aircraft (MCA).
