UPU Strategy Conference - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 13-14 April the UPU Strategy Conference, chaired by Côte d’Ivoire and attended by nearly 750 delegates from 135 countries. The conference is an important milestone for the postal sector because it enables a mid-term assessment of the Doha Postal Strategy (2013-2016) and the identification of future challenges and opportunities.

Highlights of the topics discussed at the Strategy Conference include the growth of e-commerce, the need to adjust to consumer needs, the importance of postal network reliability and the adjustment of universal service obligations. It was also recalled that the extensive global network of post offices is an important factor for social, financial and economic inclusion and that constant technological progress impacting the postal sector should be taken into account at regulatory level.

Finally, Switzerland announced the respective candidacy for member of the UPU Council of Administration (CA) and confirmed support for the current Deputy Director-General, Pascal Clivaz, for a second term. Côte d’Ivoire officially presented its candidacy to host the UPU Congress in 2020.
