Portugal elected Chair of ECO Council

Portugal (Marta Leandro, ANACOM) has been appointed Chair of the European Communications Office (ECO) Council. The appointment was made at the 12th meeting of the ECO Council, held in Biel, Switzerland on 6 and 7 May 2015.

Since November 2013, Portugal has held the office of vice-chair of the ECO Council.

Based in Copenhagen, ECO is the permanent office of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT). ECO also gives administrative and technical support to its Chair and to the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC), the European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP) and the International Telecommunication Union Policy Committee (Com-ITU).

The ECO Council - which includes representatives of the 35 signatories to the ECO Convention, i.e. CEPT countries which finance the office - monitors the respective management and advises the director on administrative and financial matters and on human resource management.
