50th plenary meeting - Sofia


The 50th plenary meeting of CEPT's CERP took place last 28-29 May in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP) described the current status of respective activities since the last CERP plenary meeting, specifically the holding of a workshop on the future of universal service, the proposed ERGP working programme for 2015, consultations on universal service, the respective financing mechanisms and universal service provider designation.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) presented main results of last April’s Postal Operations Council session, highlighting electronic advance data, integrated products and remuneration, more stakeholder participation based on the 3C model, and reform of the UPU.

Likewise presented were reports on CERP’s participation in the Regional Conference of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) and on CERP’s mission to the Seychelles. The subject of development of the Istanbul Postal Strategy in the European region was also considered.

Information was released regarding the 2016 Congress in Istanbul, specifically the dates and place: 19 September-10 October 2016 at the Hotel Hilton Istanbul Bomonti and at the Conference Centre.

Lastly, the plenary session closed with a forum focusing on the subject of ‘new challenges and opportunities for universal service providers that result from rapid evolution of the postal market with respect to postal regulation’.
