Seminar on postal statistics - Brussels

Brussels hosted last 21 May a seminar on postal statistics organised by the European Commission (EC).

The seminar began with a summary of work undertaken to compile statistical indicators, which since 2014 has been coordinated by the EC in the wake of a decision by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) to stop collecting those indicators. This was followed by a preliminary analysis of results and conclusions obtained during the 2014 information-gathering campaign (referring to 2012 and 2013) and a presentation on how confidentiality of statistical information is treated. The EC also considered some methodological aspects and revision of the glossary, besides presenting the provisional schedule for publication of information concerning the 2014 questionnaire and the 2015 information-gathering campaign.

The seminar also included a presentation on work carried out by the End User/Market Monitoring working group of the European Regulators Group for Postal Services (ERGP), co-chaired by ANACOM, and on the experience of the Polish (UKE – Office of Electronic Communications) and Swiss (OFCOM – Federal Office of Communications) regulatory authorities regarding the process of gathering statistical indicators.
