Portugal awarded special mention in UPU international competition

"Dear book of worn pages" - so  begins the letter by Maria Coutinho (aged 13 years) from Porto, which, representing Portugal, won special mention at the 2015 international letter-writing competition run by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The letter was entered into the international competition after winning the national "best letter" competition, a joint initiative of ANACOM and CTT - Correios de Portugal, on the theme: "Tell us about the world you want to grow up in".

The UPU competition was won by Sara Jadid (aged 13 years) from Lebanon, who impressed the international jury with a heartfelt plea for a world without war. Second place in the competition was awarded to Miriam Campos Acin, aged 11, of Spain, and third place to Leonardo Silva Brito, aged 15, from Brazil.

This year, the UPU letter-writing competition saw participation from 65 countries, representing the involvement of about 1.5 million children and young people.
