BEREC/EMERG/EaPeReg/Regulatel summit - Barcelona

Barcelona hosted last 2-3 July a high-level summit meeting which for the first time gathered representatives of BEREC and their counterparts from the Euro-Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG), the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg) and the Latin American Forum of Telecommunications Regulatory Authorities (Regulatel) to discuss current challenges facing the electronic communications sector in the new internet ecosystem.

Representatives from the European Commission and the Office also participated, with the debate based on three sessions focusing on the following topics: the internet ecosystem and challenges for regulation; broadband (access and connectivity), next generation networks (NGNs) and implementation in rural and remote areas; and broadband services and quality standards from the consumer standpoint. The meeting resulted in the adoption of a final declaration which basically reiterates the aforementioned groups’ commitment to promoting future regulatory cooperation between Europe and other regions of the world.
