ICP has a New Chairman

Luís Nazaré, with a professional career centered in the areas of Management, Planning and Administration in the Telecommunications and Information Technology sectors, is the new Chairman of ICP, appointed on 1st July last.

Luís Nazaré took office at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Equipment, Planning and Territorial Administration. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Equipment, Planning and Territorial Administration and the Secretary of State for Housing and Communications, together with a large number of personalities associated with the communications sector.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Minister João Cravinho made reference to the professional career of Luís Nazaré as being one of the reasons for his confidence in the future of ICP, which is of capital importance to the actual development of the Country owing to the fact that, pursuant to official Government policy, it is ''one of the foundations of the Information Society in Portugal''.

The Minister also expressed his appreciation for the work of the outgoing Chairman Fernando Mendes, who resigned from the Institute for reasons of a personal nature, and publicly commended his loyalty and commitment.

João Cravinho specifically stated that Fernando Mendes has left his successor with ''a tidy house'' - a ''modern'' institution with highly capable human and technological resources which would allow the Institute to ''continue to innovate''.

Luís Nazaré began his professional career in 1980 having been actively engaged in the Management, Planning and Administration in the Telecommunications and Information Technology sectors, with a special highlight to EUTELSAT - European Telecommunications Satellite Organization.

He has been a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industry, Trade and Tourism since 1995.

The new Chairman of the Board of ICP is also a lecturer and a researcher in the Management and Corporate Strategy areas.
