At a meeting held on 1 October 2015, European Union Ministers in charge of competitiveness formally approved new rules to end mobile roaming charges in the European area as of mid-2017. The Council likewise approved the first provisions to safeguard open internet access.
The European Parliament must now approve the text in its plenary session in late October.
