World Post Day - 09.10.2015


World Post Day was celebrated on 9 October, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 - the theme for this year is "Innovation, Integration and Inclusion are the key drivers for the future of the Post".

In Portugal, the day was marked by a commemorative ceremony organised by FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation), held on its premises. The event was attended by Fátima Barros, Chair of ANACOM's Board of Directors and President of the FPC General Council, by Francisco de Lacerda, Chairman and CEO of CTT - Correios de Portugal and by Luís M. Andrade, Chairman of the Board of FPC.

During this session, prizes was handed out for the "Best Letter 2015" competition, whose theme was "Write a letter to tell us about the world you want to grow up in". Prizes have been awarded to Lucas Matias from Leiria (9-11 years) and to Maria Coutinho from Porto (12-15 years), who obtained an honourable mention.

The theme selected by UPU for the 2016 letter-writing competition is "Write a letter to your 45-year-old self".

The ceremony was included the launch of a stamp issue commemorating "Pioneers of classical dance in Portugal" as well as the inauguration of the exhibition "In Praise of the Stamp - Artistic Consultants Jaime Martins Barata and José Pedro Martins Barata at the Portuguese post office" and "There and back (Postal Art) ".
