Meeting of WG NaN PT TRIS - Vilnius

The project team on Technical Regulatory Issues (PT TRIS) of the ECC working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) met last 8-9 September in Vilnius, Lituania.

The following matters were discussed and examined:

  • migration from public switched telephone and integrated services digital networks (PSTN/ISDN) to next generation networks (NGN);
  • evolution of calling line identification (CLI) use in internet protocol (IP) networks;
  • technological development at the service of mobile internet access.

Regarding the subject of migration to NGN networks, the group decided to produce a report on technical solutions used in the migration from PSTN/ISDN networks to IP/NGN networks, including their impact on regulation. The analysis will be based on examples of migration already accomplished, looking at both technical and commercial network solutions. With respect to consumers, aspects linked to existing functions in PSTN/ISDN services will also be examined, safeguarding consumers’ right of choice.

The most technical part of the report on evolution of CLI usage in IP networks, which evaluates whether its use can be made more flexible, was revised by this working group. The report will be put forward for approval so it can be submitted to public consultation.

Regarding the third topic, the group aims to evaluate the implementation of advanced mobile solutions (e.g. enhanced long term evolution – LTE) to thereby check compliance with what is set out in the European digital agenda, assessing their impact on quality of mobile internet access service and how that information is transmitted to consumers.

This working team will hold its next meeting in April 2016.
