IR EWG meeting - Brussels

The BEREC expert working group on International Roaming (IR EWG) held a meeting last 7 September in Brussels, co-chaired by the Austrian (Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications – RTR) and Spanish (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia – CNMC) national regulatory authorities (NRAs).

The main agenda point was the discussion about the request for information to remit to NRAs and operators, deriving from a European Commission (EC) request, concerning issues associated to implementation of the telecom single market (TSM) and specifically regarding review of the wholesale roaming market and determination of reasonable usage criteria.

Also presented was a project to draw up a list of relevant questions regarding TSM implementation which have been indicated by operators, in order to facilitate and help clear up issues concerning this matter and which could be used as a basis for updating BEREC’s guidelines on application of roaming regulations. The current status of ongoing preparation of the report on transparency and compatibility in roaming rates was also presented. In this regard, it was indicated that the data gathering process was over and that the report was now being produced.

During the IR EWG meeting mention was also made of several items on the working programme planned for 2015, largely concerning matters associated to TSM implementation, besides the periodic reports regularly produced by the group.
