Meeting of CERP WG UPU - Oslo

The eleventh meeting of the European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP) working group (WG) responsible for European coordination of issues concerning the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was held on 22 October in Oslo, chaired by Norway. Portugal was among the 14 countries attending, along with the Association of European Public Postal Operators (PostEurop) and the UPU’s International Bureau.

This meeting was meant to prepare the 2015 session of the UPU Council of Administration (CA), to be held in November, so the work mainly focused on analysing and discussing the documents and issues to be dealt with at that session. Highlights included discussion of the following topics:

  • UPU reform;
  • financial and human resources questions;
  • compensation issues;
  • revision of the UPU’s legal instruments.

The question of CERP’s future was also briefly considered, following discussion about the matter at the CEPT plenary meeting last May.

Agreement was reached for the group to meet informally during the UPU CA.

The date and place of the next regular meeting of WG UPU have not yet been determined, though it should be held in late January with a view to preparing for the February joint session of the UPU’s CA and Postal Operations Council (POC), the last one before the autumn Congress in Istanbul.
