ITU Telecom World 2015 - Budapest


ITU Telecom World was held last 12-15 October in Budapest, Hungary, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

ANACOM actively participated in this year’s fair. On 12 October Fátima Barros attended the following sessions as BEREC chair:

  • The Leadership Summit, on the panel focusing on the topic of ‘accelerating digital innovation for social impact’. She particularly sought to answer questions concerning measures regulators can adopt to promote investment in next generation access (NGA) networks, key challenges Europe will face to ensure its needs with respect to digital networks and how the digital single market (DSM) can help create a European culture of entrepreneurship and innovation;
  • Broader Way (organised by Huawei) - a session where Fátima Barros presented BEREC, its aims and major challenges.

The other participants, besides Fátima Barros, included ITU secretary-general Houlin Zhao, Nicholas Negroponte of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Fadi Chehade, head of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Udo Helmbrecht, executive director of the European Network and Information Security Agnecy (ENISA), and Joy Tan, the head of Huawei’s Global Media and Communications.

As head of ANACOM Fátima Barros also participated in the ministerial roundtable. It approved the Budapest Action Lines document which follows up the global digital agenda known as Connect 2020.
