WG NaN PT NP meeting - Riga

The Number Portability project team (PT NP) of the working group on Numbering and Networks (WG NaN) met last 13-14 October in Riga at the invitation of Latvia’s regulator, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). This PT produced studies, reports and recommendations concerning aspects associated to number portability.

The work at this meeting focused on the following documents:

1. Report concerning access by entities without portability responsibilities to number portability databases, which analysed comments received in the wake of the respective public consultation. This report will be proposed for adoption and publication at the WG NaN meeting;

2. Report analysing the eventual impacts of more flexible use of numbers as identifiers (calling line identification (CLI)) of a communication’s origin;

3. Recommendation concerning access by entities without portability responsibilities to number portability databases.

Regarding the second and third items the respective documents were finalised and the working group agreed to submit them for approval and public consultation at the next meeting.

The study on how to facilitate the switch of provider and competition in the machine-to-machine (M2M) services sector using the over-the-air (OTA) method was subject to a preliminary evaluation; a report will subsequently be prepared.

This group’s next meeting will be held in March 2016.
