Tariff cap approved for calls received in intra-EU roaming

On 16 December 2015, the European Commission (EC) announced adoption of a cap applicable to the tariffs which customers can be charged when receiving calls in intra-European Union roaming: 1.14 cents per minute (excluding VAT). For roaming   customers who have subscribed to a Eurotariff, the current limit (in effect until 29 April 2016) for such communications is 5 cents per minute (excluding VAT).

Under Regulation (EU) 2015/2120 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 caps have already been applied to the tariffs of other communications in intra-EU roaming, applicable to amounts payable by customers between 30 April 2016 and 14 June 2017.

With approval of the cap on calls received in intra-EU roaming on 16 December 2015, the range of caps applicable to the tariffs that customers will have to pay from 30 April 2016 until 14 June 2017 is now fully defined.

From 15 June 2017, except in certain exceptional and specific circumstances as set out in Regulation (EU) 2015/2120 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015, roaming charges in the EU are due to be completely abolished (possibly subject to a "fair use policy").
