Technical Committee 210 meeting - Brussels

CENELEC Technical Committee 210 (TC210) met on 9-10 December 2015 in Brussels, where the following resolutions were approved:

1. In the scope of standardisation mandate M/536 of the European Commission (EC) addressed to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and CENELEC for the production of standards to support Directive 2014/53/EC (Radio Equipment Directive (RED)), a decision was made to prepare an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standardisation programme for combined equipment (such as the case of electrical appliances covered by the current EN55014-1 but which include a radio);

2. The current harmonised EMC standard, EN50561-1:2013, for power line communications (PLC) equipment does not consider multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology; a decision was therefore made to modify it along with the rest of the standard’s series;

3. The questions raised by the Telecommunications Conformity Assessment and Market Surveillance Committee (TCAM) concerning the classification of wireless charger applications make it necessary to review the CENELEC-ETSI agreement in that area;

4. A decision was made to prepare an interpretation sheet (ISH) to clear up questions raised during the public survey on EN55016-1-1. Such is the case, for example, of the one opposing calibration of measurement instruments by the manufacturer, arguing that its calibration procedures would be inaccessible. It was made clear that that was not the truth, because under EN17025 accreditation they have the inherent obligation to be made publicly available, as in the case of the so-called performance tests undertaken by the measurement instrument’s respective maker, for which it is responsible;

5. A decision was made to send to both the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR) and Technical Committee 77 (TC77) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) a summary of concerns raised in the third edition of TC210 informative document Sec0898/INF, which reports cases of interference between equipment and systems in the frequency band below 150 kHz.
