ANACOM provides daily information on the quality of the DTT signal


Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) has started making information available to the public on a daily basis on the quality of the digital terrestrial television signal in Portugal, as measured by the nationwide network of probes. This information is provided through a tool that identifies the quality of the signal in all districts as green, red or yellow.

Green means good quality DTT signal reception (through channel 56) at the site where the probe is installed. This means that the DTT signal was above the minimum quality threshold for more than 99% of the time during the day in question.

If there were any problems with the signal reception, these lasted less than 1% of the day.

If the searched location is marked red, this means that, for the day in question, there were problems with DTT signal reception (via the channel 56) at the site where the probe is installed. This means that the DTT signal was below the minimum quality threshold for 1% or more of the time.

In these cases, the probes are installed in areas where only the single frequency DTT network is available (channel 56) and where there is no multi-frequency network transmission that could provide an alternative.

If the situation is marked yellow, this means that there were difficulties in receiving the DTT signal through channel 56 but that other channels were available at the site to provide transmission of the DTT signal - although the signal quality from alternative channels is not measured by these probes. If there are problems receiving transmissions, this means that the measurements recorded by the probe were below the minimum quality threshold for at least 1% of the day,

The information made available using ANACOM's new tool includes all historical measurements up until the previous day.

ANACOM also has plans to begin monitoring the signal transmitted on the other channels that make up the multi-frequency network: channels 40, 42, 45, 46, 47, 48 and 49.
